Kansas City Business Journal Names Populous a Champion of Business for 2018
Populous was recognized as a Champion of Business for the second year in a row by the Kansas City Business Journal for its community involvement, financial performance and industry leadership. In 2017, Populous saw its most successful year in company history, recording an increase in revenues and growing its licensed architecture staff by more than 25 percent.
The firm continued to revolutionize the fan experience in 2017, from the opening of Colorado State’s new football stadium that blends academics and athletics to increase year-round usability, to the debut of safe-standing space with Orlando City Stadium. These innovations and more were recognized by Fast Company, earning Populous a first place spot on their 2018 Most Innovative Companies list for the live events category.
Populous’ significant investments in community involvement were also acknowledged. Employee matching for donations and volunteerism for local and national charitable programs are offered and encouraged by Populous. In addition, the firm participates in the Turn the Page reading program with 60 weekly volunteer readers and a $100,000 donation to support literacy in the Kansas City community.
“This award belongs to every individual in our firm. It takes the hard work of many to be able to do what we do, from servicing a diverse array of clients to consistent community involvement,” said Earl Santee, Populous Americas Managing Director. “It is an honor to see Populous recognized as a business leader in Kansas City, and we look forward to continuing to give back to our employees and the greater community every chance we get.”
In 2017 alone, Populous was named Kansas City’s top architecture firm by the Kansas City Business Journal, the number one sports architecture firm worldwide by World Architecture News and a top 100 design firm by Engineering News-Record. The firm also received a silver rating as a Healthy KC organization from Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, its second year in a row.
The Champions of Business program honors Kansas City-based companies in operation for at least three years with a gross revenue of at least $3 million. The businesses recognized in the program are noted for leadership in their respective industries, innovation and philanthropic efforts.
