Populous provided full architectural services for ENGIE Stadium, a multipurpose, high-quality boutique AFL stadium on the site of the Sydney Showgrounds Main Arena, at the Sydney Olympic Park precinct.
The design intent was to build on the success of the existing Showgrounds venue and redevelop the venue both as an individual building, and to function as a family friendly, multifunctional venue in the Olympic Park precinct. It draws on existing architectural and landscape language, providing an “active edge” to the local environment on event days.
In addition to providing a home for the new Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL Team, the stadium continues to host the Royal Easter Show, which took place for the first time in the redeveloped grounds in April 2012.
