Acrisure Stadium (formerly Heinz Field) is widely regarded as one of the finest fields in the NFL. A huge part of that popularity comes down to the way Populous embedded the stadium within the city of Pittsburgh.

Our design draws on the city’s history and, in particular, its strong ties to the steel industry — the stadium is home to the Steelers, after all. Steel plays a major role, both in the structure and the stadium’s exterior, while the open south end creates a connection between the stadium and downtown, drawing the city into the game day experience. As the stadium has developed, Populous has remained on hand, designing renovations in 2015 that opened up the south plaza, creating nearly 360 degrees of connectivity for fans around the stadium. The Populous events team was also involved when the venue staged the 2011 NHL Winter Classic between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals, and again for the 2017 NHL Stadium Series game between the Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers. 

 In 2023, Taylor Swift performed at Acrisure Stadium as part of her Eras Tour, attracting 73,117 people, making it the highest-ticketed event in Pittsburgh’s history.
