In 2013 the city of Kazan hosted the World Summer Universiade, where around 12,000 young athletes from 170 countries gathered to compete in 26 sports. As part of the preparations for this event, the city built a new 45,000-seat stadium that has since become the new home of FC Rubin Kazan.
The stadium is located on the western edge of the Volga River, on a 24.6 hectare site that acts as a gateway to the city from its waterfront location. In addition to the ancillary sporting accommodation, the waterfront site has also been
developed as a dedicated sporting precinct with excellent support infrastructure and amenities.
Due to it’s close proximity to the city centre, the Kazan Stadium is highly accessible and can act as a catalyst for further development. In 2015 the stadium was adapted to host the World Aquatic Championships and went on to provide a world-class football platform, with state-of-the-art technology, specifications, and facilities, to meet the demands of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
