The Gabba Upgrade

The Gabba has a new lease on life, with the finishes touches applied to the refurbishment works to upgrade to public, corporate and media facilities at the stadium.

The $35 million upgrade has modernise The Gabba and will improve the match-day atmosphere and experience for fans.

Populous Architect, Brayden Goodwin, said being both passionate sports architects and Brisbane locals, Populous was thrilled to work with Stadiums Queensland and The Gabba on this project.

“The main aim of the refurbishment was to improve the fan experience by providing a new overall wayfinding strategy for the venue, modernising of the gate entries and activation of the concourse and public spaces.

“New destination bars and a significant refurbishment of the media, operations and corporate facilities are also underway,” Goodwin said.

Stadiums Queensland Chief Executive Todd Harris said upgrades will ensure that reputation continues, and importantly keep people employed.

“The Gabba has a proud place in Queensland’s sporting and entertainment history.

“Upgrades will improve the experience, with colour-coded theming of entrances to make it easier to get around, simplified signage, a sensory room, adult change facility, new eateries and destination bars and historical features to highlight our proud history,” Harris said.

Brisbane Lions CEO Greg Swann said the team was looking forward to the enhanced match day experience that members and fans would receive as a result of the upgrades.

“The Gabba is already one of the best grounds in the country for viewing and atmosphere, and these upgrades ensure it remains in that top tier of stadiums in the country,” Swann said.
